Day 21: Dhaka Drawings

I wanted to comment on the drawings below yesterday, but was unable to.. In the Tejgaon Industrial area, on the way to Kawran bazaar, they were dismantling squatter shops on the main road, and I was attempting to stop and draw for a bit and make sense of what was going on.. The 3 figures were observing the rubble, post destruction, with man, woman, child all attempting to take what they can. The cart was being loaded with left over tin – and I was unable to draw in the detail this time round. I felt like I was intruding, and since Thursdays activity at the Train station, emotionally drained and unable to dare to ask what happened and what was next.  The resilience of the people of Dhaka continually inspires and I torment myself in the process it seems, at the injustice that needlessly occurs with bad policy (destruction and clearances of street dwellers without alternatives in place often) and the struggle to rebuild entire livelihoods.

  1. I love these drawings. They communicate what was going on so much better than a photograph. Thank you for sharing.
