Dhaka Snaps… Traffic + Night-time rickshaw

Ultimately, Dhaka is a chaotic mega-city – and getting around is as difficult as it looks from the images below. Especially if you have no car of your own, with a driver, and air-conditioning.  Majority of the population travel with these means – Rickshaw, bus,  CNG, auto-rickshaws, tempo’s… anything but the air-conditioned car… The result is often a sweaty, steamy, polluted journey – which the traveller may enjoy – but for the everyday city-dweller, a sheer frustration, pain and nuisance.  With a distinct lack of investment in worthwhile initiatives – adequate street-lighting, enough footpaths (indeed just a footpath would be a start in many places – the size and width of which can be argued for a later date..!), legalised and safe public transport systems – especially the rickshaws, CNG’s, buses and trains… – Dhaka has a long way to go to becoming a safe place to get around… Instead investment in fly-overs, a quick money making scheme and little impact…Maybe I am over-romanticising here, but in the meanwhile.. I may as well as enjoy what I can.. Its not likely that the thrill of rickshaws is everybody’s cup of tea (nor should it be)
